The Estate Behind the Name

Temple Hoyne Buell was Denver’s most prolific twentieth-century architect, the man behind the Paramount Theatre and the Cherry Creek Shopping Center, and his Cherry Hills estate was the private counterpart to that public work. When the grounds were developed into a residential enclave, the plan kept the estate’s landscape as the organizing feature rather than clearing it: the ponds, the mature plantings, and the original structures shaped where the streets went. That history is why the community feels established in a way newer gated developments cannot replicate, and why the homes, though custom and largely modern, sit within an older frame.
